Bowhunting in South Africa
At Timbila Game Hunt, our bowhunting areas have been carefully selected by experienced bowhunters to offer unique and personalized experiences. These areas include blinds, tree stands, and locations for still hunting or walk-and-stalk. Furthermore, only our bowhunters are permitted to hunt in these zones. The camp also features practice targets where archers can hone their skills.
We provide dedicated services for bowhunters, whether using a traditional or compound bow. Located in Limpopo Province, Timbila Game Hunt offers some of the finest bowhunting experiences in the world.
Walk-and-stalk
Our preferred hunting method is walk-and-stalk — a hands-on, thrilling way to track game. While it’s more challenging and has a lower success rate than blind hunting, many archers enjoy attempting it, particularly in our dry riverbeds.
Blinds or Tree stands
Most hunts are conducted from blinds or tree stands, with shooting distances ranging from 10 to 30 meters. Additionally, we provide packed lunches and drinks while you’re in the blind, but you’re also welcome to return to the lodge for lunch if you prefer.
Hybrid Hunts
We also offer hybrid hunts, which begin with a drive to locate animals, then continue on foot, or involve mini-drives to bring the game closer.
Finally, at Timbila, bowhunters have exclusive rights to hunt certain bird species. These include guinea fowl, francolin, sandgrouse, Egyptian geese, doves, and ostrich. These options provide a diverse and rewarding experience, always in line with our commitment to ethical and sustainable hunting.
No Kill Policy
We offer a No Kill Policy: if, as part of a package, you don’t harvest the intended game, you’ll only be charged the daily rate — not the trophy fee (note that the package discount does not apply in this case). This policy is especially valuable for bowhunters, whose success rates are generally lower than those of rifle hunters.
