Hunting in South Africa

In South Africa, 98% of hunting areas are fenced, creating closed ecosystems that require careful wildlife management. Which means, without natural predators or migration, some species can become overpopulated, leading to habitat degradation, disease, and ecological imbalance.

Hence at Timbila Game Hunt, we practice ethical hunting which plays a key role in maintaining this balance. Additionally, guided by strict quotas, it targets older, non-breeding, or sick animals, ensuring healthy population dynamics.

Furthermore, our revenue from hunting supports reserve management, anti-poaching efforts, habitat restoration, and veterinary care.

What to expect

Visiting Timbila Game Hunt in South Africa is not just about hunting; it’s an opportunity for you to immerse in the natural environment, contribute to conservation efforts, and experience the rich biodiversity of the region.

Guided Hunts
Our hunting is conducted under the guidance of experienced professional hunters or guides. These experts not only help in tracking and hunting game but also ensure legal and ethical hunting practices.

Conservation Efforts
Many hunting reserves in South Africa are deeply involved in wildlife conservation. Which means, we often use funds generated from hunting and tourism to support habitat preservation, anti-poaching efforts, and local community projects.

Different Hunting Methods
Depending on the game, we may use various hunting methods. This can include tracking on foot, hunting from hides, or using vehicles to cover larger areas.

Safety Regulations
Safety is our priority. Our visitors will be briefed on safety protocols, especially when in close proximity to dangerous wildlife.

Ethical Considerations
Timbila Game Hunt aligns with ethical hunting and conservation practices. Furthermore, ethical hunting reserves contribute to the conservation of species and habitats.

Responsible hunting

Our hunting is regulated to maintain game populations at a healthy level and prevent overpopulation, which could harm the ecosystem.

Annually, we dedicate yourselves to establishing the Reserve’s hunting quota through an extensive wildlife conservation plan, underpinned by thorough annual wildlife audits.

Our plan includes a selection of non-trophy males and females, which are responsibly offered to both domestic and international hunting enthousiasts.

Therefore, our commitment to ethical hunting practices guarantees the sustainability of these activities, fostering the enduring vitality and diversity of the Reserve’s animal herds.

Finally, to promote genetic variety and robustness within the species, breeding males are judiciously chosen for trophy potential.

Hunting predators

We firmly believe that hunting is a natural process: a predator pursuing a prey is a fundamental aspect of life’s cycle. However, hunting a large predator, is a more delicate matter, particurlarly as the predator lacks the impulse to flee.

Therefore, within the reserve, we hunt certain predators infrequently and only under justifiable reasons such as genetic management, controlling overpopulation,  addressing the behaviour of animals that have become dangerous or dealing with diseases.
